blog # 6

after reading the text i am left with many emotions and feelings about human nature i did not have before.  humans can be evil and terrible people just as much as they can be loving and caring .  Their is not a fine line that divides both , for one reason or another a person can be anywhere on that spectrum.  Life i see as not so defined anymore, through reading i see his troubles and pain and i see Beah learn instead of dying out with no flame left to move on.  The human journey takes many paths and your destiny is made by the desiscions and choices you make along the way , often changing , daily changing with every breath , every thought.  I see now that your path is never paved to go one way , you lay your stones as you move through life.  From this work i will take the lessons into my life , to never judge a book by its cover and to always remember the truth about human nature , never be to trusting but to always give someone the time of day.  Also to live my life one day at a time. A question i have about human nature would be  to what extent does the damage have to be in ones life to excuse them from murder?

blog post #5

the claims i am making with my 2 texts are that human nature  shows that when someone is in a tale of pain and grief or brought out of their element against their will like diaspora , we as humans will forgive them for wrong doings they may have made while in that situation as long as it was in order for that individual to survive.  I use  a story from the chicago tribune about jews and diaspora and how after effects of diaspora have declined the jewish past into almost nothing.  information on past events and people in the jewish community have been destroyed and forgotten.  this is just a refrence to how diaspora effects others all over the world.
my thesis would be that with human nature you will find that people are forgiving if you have came out of a tragic situation.  the questions i find are those that deal with morality.   How much can a person be forgiven for ?  to what extent must the tradegedy be for the person to have a get our of jail free card ? Etc.

rename chapt 17, 18 , 19

chapt 17    ... back to health  ... i call this chapter back to health because beah starts the chapter on page 152  by telling us how he has not been to  the hospital in years.  He is introduced to a nurse that checks him over looking at his overall health.  it shows that beah can still trust .  I think it is a chapter that brings hope.

chapt 18 family ties....  i call this chapter family ties because the underling feel is the missing of beahs family .  the lost connection he so needs to develop fully .   i feel that in the first line of the chapter he gives us his feelings twards his family and how he wishes he was with them.

chapt 19...long way back .... i call this chapter a long way back because  beah talks about returning to his uncle and i can imagine how hard it would be to see a figure in your life and trying to make it norma when realy you raised yourself and this figure no longer has value .  it is a long way back emotionally for beah , he is back stepping.

escape

"In a matter of seconds, people started screaming and running in different directions, pushing and trampling whoever had fallen on the ground".

This sentence is on pg 23 in chapter 3 .  Beah was just done cooking the rice and okra soup when he and his friends heard a gunshot.  Soon after they heard many gunshots one after another like thunder.  At first the boys thought it was soldiers shooting their rifles but they soon realized it was not, but in fact it was the rebels as soon as about fifteen minutes passed just eneugh to dish out the rice.  That is when all hell broke out and gunshots were heard hitting the tin roofs of houses and the whole village panicked and started to run. No one took anything with them, they just ran for their lives. mothers lost children.

What i think this sentence shows is the absolute fear of death and the willingness to loose everything to stay alive , the human drive to survive is so strong that we will give up anything holding us back from that survival to go on.  even of that is our own child.  The people in the town left all of their belongings and loved ones behind in the blink of an eye because death was so close.  For someone on the brink of death nothing else matters but survival.  It is the fight or flight thought processes that all humans have in their brain.  Either you flee death or you stay and fight it there is no in between.  for the villagers there was no other option but to run , if they had stayed they would have surely been murdered.  I think any person faced with this situation or one similar would do the same as the villagers did, i know i would.  I think this shows a lot about human nature and how we are still chained by our brains survival mode.  If we were to learn anything we should learn that some things can not be stoped and that to survive we must sacrifice.
